DR. MATT BUCKLES
I have been serving as Pastor of First Baptist Church Vicksburg since June 28th, 2004. Previously I have served the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board from 1990 - 2004. I answered God’s call to preach in 1975, was ordained the following year, and then began serving as a local church pastor. My education includes graduating from Mississippi College in 1978, from New Orleans Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 1980, and a Doctor of Ministry in 1989. My wife Karen and I have been married since August 20, 1977. We have two children and six grandchildren (three of which are triplets!!!). My hobbies include yard work, hunting, reading, histories & biographies of great generals and leaders, and collecting rocks. My collection includes rocks from every continent except Antarctica. It is my deep joy to serve as Pastor of this church.

ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF EDUCATION & ADMINISTRATION
Helping people grow in their faith and serve God as the Associate Pastor of Education and Administration at FBCV brings great joy to me. After growing up in Brandon, Mississippi and graduating from Brandon High School, I joined the Navy and served for the Admiral of the Submarine Force in the Atlantic Fleet. Following my military service, I came back to Mississippi and earned a degree in Social Work from Mississippi College. During that time, I married my high school sweetheart and worked for various companies in the Jackson area for many years. It was there that Liesl and I began raising our three children, Laura Ashton, Jackson, and John Neil. At the age of 42, God called me into full-time Christian ministry and I began attending seminary. I graduated four years later with a Master of Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Following graduation, I served on staff at a church in Alabama and joined FBCV in October 2013. During my free time, I enjoy working in the yard, working on computers, and fixing cars.

Associate Pastor of Music, Worship & Communications
Our family was blessed to partner in ministry with FBCV in January 2018. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music from Mississippi College in 1993, I married my college sweetheart, Stephanie. Our early married years were spent in Ft. Worth, TX where I earned a Master of Music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Stephanie and I count our three daughters, Abby, Sarah Katherine, and Belle, as the Lord’s greatest blessings of our lives.
As the child of Southern Baptist International Missionaries, my childhood home was Malawi, Africa where my upbringing was staggeringly British and I was known as Douglas, not Doug. In fact, if you address me as Douglas, my response just might be more English than American!
My hobbies and interests include composing music and creative writing, but my all-time favorite is being with my family, so if you’re looking for me, I’m probably with them and our Longhaired Dachshund, Bentley.
